- The Hanyang-Dosung is a fortress built to protect the royal palace and people in the Chosun Dynasty and represents a history of Chosun Dynasty and people. It becomes a historic and cultural heritage in Seoul. In spite of the value of the Hanyang-Dosung, the importance and value of the region adjacent to the Hanyang-Dosung has been not recognized. Due to the efforts on registering the Hanyang-Dosung as a World Heritage, the neighboring region becomes important as a buffer zone for the Dosung. Therefore, it is necessary to make a connection between the Dosung and its buffer zone.
- This study conducted a spatial analysis on the region adjacent to the Dosung and found out that the region is needed for an integrated management system with several different departments of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Local Offices(Gus). This study categorized the neighboring areas into three - green area, commercial area, and residential area - and suggested the management system for these areas to reinforce the value of the adjacent region to the Hanyang-Dosung.
- The green areas have to be preserved naturally considering four aspects, such as natural environment, history, landscape, and culture & tourism. The commercial areas have to recognize not only a physical restoration of the Dosung but also the establishment of the relationship between the Dosung and the neighboring areas. Finally, the residential areas have to focus on life of their residents based on three aspects - history, culture & tourism and landscape.
- The effective management plan and system of the region adjacent to the Hanyang-Dosung will reinforce its value as part of a World Heritage.
