Domestic hotels are foreign tourists" most favorite facility. Given ten millions of foreign visitors these days, there is still a lack of hotels in Seoul and the Metropolitan area. But, the hotels in other domestic regions have difficult structures to develop because of the issues of empty rooms and of the high season and low season. To solve the problem, it is necessary to compare and analyze regional comparative edges and growth in reflection of the structural changes of the regional hotel industries and in consideration of time-based changes. Therefore this study used shift-share analysis and growth rate differential analysis, the techniques which are used to analyze the regional changes occurring during a certain period, in order to compare the performance of each regional hotel industry and regional comparative edges on the basis of the sales from guest rooms and facilities of hotels in 16 regions from 1998 to 2012.
In the future, the environment of tourism, such as experience-oriented tours, MICE, medical tours, and other high added-value tours, will change further. Accordingly, regional hotel industries are expected to change a lot. Therefore, it is required to reflect time-based changes when the performance of each regional hotel industry is analyzed. This study is meaningful in the point that it is the initial research on the analysis of the performance of each regional hotel industry in consideration of time-based changes.
