Electromagnetic wave is widely used for IT industry such as wireless internet, broadcast network and mobile. And they require more elaborate and complicated device (PCB or Chip) than before, for meeting faster and more precise IT environment. But simultaneously, it causes Noise (Undesirable Electromagnetic wave), we should remove or reduce it for avoiding a false operation.
There are two ways for understanding and handling Noise issue.
First, EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) means noise emission level control under limited criteria with certain device. The other one, EMS (Electromagnetic Susceptibility), is under noise emission environment, a device could be designed for preventing false operation. Any system or module should be designed regarding to EMI and EMS conditions.
In terms of EMI, it contains RE (Radiated Emission), CE (Conducted Emission). EMS perspective, it has RS (Radiated Susceptibility), ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) and CS (Conducted Susceptibility).
Systematically, EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) condition have three kinds of part which are Noise source, Carrier path and Victim. If any part of them can be eliminated or controlled, EMC problem can be solved. Merely, most economical way for controlling EMC problem is thorough design for Noise source.
This thesis is for researching to optimum PCB design of IP Cluster (Instrument Panel Cluster) which is one of essential module in automotive industry. One thing should be considered is that IP Cluster must be following a restricted package by vehicle manufacturer. Due to this restriction, this thesis is focusing on placement of key components on a restricted PCB circuit in stead of routing change for power line or signal line or adding filtering component. And CE (Conducted Emission) is chosen for a part of improvement in EMC.
