Nowadays, the word ‘emotion’ has become a familiar adjective in many industries thanks to its wide-range representation of human life and culture in a changing society. Among emotional designs, color, which contains more subjective elements than any other designs, has been expanding the scope of its utility as history increasingly emphasizes the meaning of symbols. Unlike the existing definition of color or symbolic and functional use of color, residents can apply various emotional color designs based on their preference as well as build environment where colors can frequently change according to residents’ emotional change. Nowadays, emotional colors are represented in wide-range industries such as food, fashion, brand, marketing, etc. Whereas in the past, purple or green pasta noodles, pink or blue food was discouraged as adulterated food or spoiling one’s appetite, now these various colors demonstrate power and influence of emotional colors which encourage consumers to desire to possess or eat these products due to their sweet and loftylooking quality inherited in colors.

British scientist Isaac Newton said that color is not a characteristic of a wavelength but a way for us to recognize what kind of wavelength there is by human brain. In other words, brain interprets the physical characteristic of surface of a certain color. ‘Seeing’ is a high-level information processing. A study of human brain finds out that our brain sees things not our eyes. Studies also reveal that seeing is an active processing and it is hard to distinguish between seeing and comprehending. Therefore, it is imperative using neuroscience methods when studying human reaction of emotional colors.

Color study has been developed not only through psychological analysis but also through an analysis of EEG(Electroencephalogram) change in order to link with more detailed emotional changes by using more objective and scientific methods. For example, the scope and range of color study has been expanded in such areas as differences between left and right brains based on optic pathway, wavelength relationships based on color preference, test of brain wave response based on color change, application of color in space based on ages, etc. In conclusion, the combination of neuroscience and emotional colors enables us to find out the way for physical and mental cure by showing how color influences human life using scientific and medical methods.
