The peupose of this study was to investigate the effect of short and long temns weight reduction period on body composition, muscle morphology, lactate and isometric strength. Fourteen Judo athletes (21.21 yrs) were matched and randomly placed into either short terms weight reduction(STWR, n= 7) or long terms weight reduction(LTWR, n=7) period. Short(Long) terms body weight reduction period consists of 7 day and 14 day weight reduction period respectively. Each groups reduced body weight by 5e(STWR=4th day frnm pre weight reduction, LTWR.=9th day from pre weight reduction), 7%(STWR=7th day, LTWR=14th day) and investigated the recovery period on 3 hour aftex brealeast, lunch, and lday, 2day after 7% body reduction. The STWR and LTWR reduced weight during weight reduction period then returned to baseline during recovery(p$lt;.05) but did not change in fat%. Both group decreased LBM during weight reduction period and then increased in recovery period, but the rate of reduction in such variable of LTWR was lower than the STWR. and recovery` rate was more higher(p$gt;.05). Fiber type distribution, mean cross sectional area, capillary density and diffusional area did not change with body weight reduction period. Isometric strength of LTWR did not change with weight reduction period and recovery. But STWR decreased muscle function after body weight reduction and then increased in recovery period to baseline(p$lt;.05). In conclusion, weight reduction of Judo athletes caused the change biological variable and performance and STWR. may detrimental effects body` homeostasis and perforneance.
