The objectives of this study were to examine injury patterns in elite judo and hockey athletes. A 50-month (Nov. 1996 to Dec. 2000), retrospective study was carried out on 340 athletes in ○○ training center. The results were expressed in following ways: types of sports, types of injuries, injured locations, injured tissues, clinical impressions, causes of injuries, onset, numbers of medical visits, days on the treatment. 1. The average judo athletes sustained 0.11 injuries per month and hockey athletes 0.09. 2. There was no significance in the incidence between acute and overused injuries of judo, and acute injuries in male hockey athletes were more than female but overused injuries in male less than female. 3. The female judo athletes had the better fellowship with the medical staff than male, but there was no significance between male and female hockey athletes. 4. The ankle and elbow were most common sites in acute injuries of judo and the lumbar area in the overused; the overall site except the knee in acute hockey injuries and the knee in the overused. 5. The most common impressions in acute injuries of judo and hockey together were muscle/ligament strains, contusions, and acute muscle sorenesses. Joint/muscle dysfunctions, athroses, chronic muscle spasms were common in the overused, 6. General strains and contusions were more common causes of acute injuries of judo, and chronic overloads, repeated strains in the overused; abrupt overloads, general strains, contusions in acute hockey injuries; chronic overloads in the overused of hockey. 7. Days on the treatment in judo (34.3±2.8 days) were more than hockey (25.5±2.9 days), and the onset, days on the treatment, numbers of medical visits in acute injuries of judo and hockey together were less than the overused.
