Understanding the level of employees" career satisfaction is of considerable importance in the hotel industry. As salient determinants of employees" career satisfaction, job stress and characteristics of work have been recognized by many researchers. Given this recognition, this study aims (1) to identify the relationship between employees" job stress groups (JSG) and career satisfaction in the upper-class hotel industry, (2) to examine the differences between characteristics of work (COW) and JSG and between TOW and career satisfaction, (3) to explore the interaction effects of COW in the relationship between JSG and career satisfaction. To reach the research hypotheses, survey questionnaires were distributed to five upper-class hotels in Busan. As a result, a total of 216 employees were employed for empirical analyses. The results of this study showed that there were significant differences between JSG and career satisfaction, between COW and JSG, and between COW and career satisfaction, respectively. Additionally, the interaction effects of COW were found in the relationship between JSG and career satisfaction. Given these results, the present study suggests several theoretical and practical implications in terms of human resource management in the upper-class hotel industry.
