There have been a number of developmental studies that explored children’s interpretation of sentences containing only. However, depending on the types of experimental methodologies, contrasting findings have been reported, which raised an issue to speculate the relation between methodology and the properties of only. This study aims to investigate how different methodologies can affect different results and conversely and how features of only can affect methodologies. Based on the comparison of these methodologies, the study provides the discussion on how this might be a source for different results within the context of the acquisition of only. It is noticeable that some methodologies that provided explicit contrast sets in the contexts made children’s comprehension of only improved while others that did not provide any contextual support didn’t. It implies that to what extent a methodology satisfies a pragmatic factor that is required for interpreting only sentences plays a vital role in resulting in different results on the acquisition of only.
