This paper explores alternative labour principles based on Marx. On one hand, those who perceive labour as negative plan a post-work society based on liberation from labour. On the other hand, advocates of humanized labour design democratic and enjoyable labour processes without trying to go beyond capitalism. In contrast to both perspectives, Marx believe that we should pursue liberation from labour in class societies, and, in a communist society, see labour as the self-realization of individuals. Alternative labour principles require changing productive activities from labour to work and establishing a system to meet social and individual needs.
