The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of the demographic characteristics of university students to their self-perceived stressors and stress-coping behavior, and to explore how they could get rid of their stress in a more positive manner. For data handling, statistical data on frequency and percentage were obtained, and t-test, one-way ANOVA, multiple regression analysis and Scheffe posttest were employed. The subjects in this study were 250 students who attended K university as of October 2006. A survey was conducted with self- administered questionnaires, and the answer sheets from 232 respondents were analyzed except for incomplete ones. The findings of the study were as follows: First, concerning the influence of demographic characteristics on stressors and coping behavior, the stressors of the students investigated were different according to their gender, academic year and college. By gender and academic year, the male students were more stressed out than the female students about their studies, and the freshmen felt more financial stress than the seniors. By college, the students at design college suffered more financial stress than the students at engineering college, and those at health and medical colleges were more stressed about their studies than the students at design college. The engineering college students had more stress about their career than those at health and medical colleges. Second, as for connections between demographic characteristics and stress-coping behavior, their academic year and college made a difference to their stress-coping style. By academic year, the upper graders handled their stress than the lower ones in a more problem-centered way or by seeking after social support. By college, the students at design college relied on more problem-centered method than those at engineering college, and the former was more in pursuit of social support than those at college of humanities. Third, when a factor analysis was made to determine the impact of stressors on stress-coping behavior, problem-centered coping was affected by interpersonal relationship(β=-.164) and career problems(β=-.184). Emotion-centered coping was under the influence of schoolwork(β=-.118), and social-support pursuit was impacted by family-related factors(β=.076) and interpersonal relationship(β=-.400). Wishful-thinking coping was affected by career problems(β=.245).
