The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in mechanisms of action observation by the presentation method by analyzing the activation patterns of brain areas during the observation of a model`s Tennis forehand stroke presented in different ways. Twelve male university students observed the model`s task performance presented in regular and panoramic methods with three presentation speeds(50%, 100%, and 200%). While subjects were observing the model`s performance, EEG patterns were measured from three brain areas(C3, Cz, and C4), from which the rate of suppression in the mu rhythm was calculated. Calculated variable was analyzed by three-way ANOVA(2 presentation method×3 speed×3 brain areas) with repeated measures. Result of the analysis revealed that the rate of suppression in the mu rhythm was significantly higher in the panoramic method than the regular. With regard to the presentation speed, the rate of suppression in the mu rhythm was significantly higher in the 50% condition than 100% and 200% in the panoramic method, while it was not different between presentation speeds in the regular method. These results suggest that the presentation method of modelling may affect the learning facilitatory effect of action observation, and the presentation of modelling in panoramic method and at the speed slower than the normal may activate the brain areas most effectively.
