The purpose of this study was to test the validity of Sport Emotion Scale (SES) (Kim & Moon, 2007)", to develop sport emotion regulation scale (SERS), and to examine causal relationship among emotion experiences, emotion regulation, and sports performance. Three steps were conducted. In step 1, the emotion reported by athletics was compared with the emotions reported by "SES". As a results, sorrow and love were different from the emotion defined by theoretical concept and the emotion reported by athletics. Also, emotion regulation strategy which athletics used in sports context was categorized by emotion regulation type (attention distraction, cognitive change, and behavior modulation) and relation (approach and avoid). In step 2, Sport Emotion Regulation Scale (SERS) was developed. Exploratory factor analysis of SERS supported 6 factor of 26 items and Chronbach`s α was in the range of .95-.69. Also 20% of upper athletic compared with 20% of lower athlete was high in happy, pride, approach attention distraction, and approach behavior modulation. and was low in avoiding attention distraction. In step 3, the results of causal model among emotion, emotion regulation, and performance appeared that the more pride and the more avoiding response modulation athletic experienced, the better sports performance was. The mean of this results was discussed.
