To discuss orientation of Korean language education for creative cultural generation, this study explains the changes in the environment of Korean language education according to the development of media technology in modern industrial society first. In other words, it identifies that ‘extension of mass culture’, ‘multiculturalism’, ‘changes in communication environment according to media development’ and ‘communication between different academics’ are practically required in Korean language education. Furthermore, to cope with such changes in Korean language education, this study suggested that a creativity which is required in Korean language education should be reconceptualized and extended to the scope of emotional and cultural creativity beyond just a cognitive creativity.
Based on this discussion, the study shows the orientation of Korean language education for creative cultural generation who live in the present and future that is and will constantly changing in the context of the environment of Korean language education. Particularly, it is argued that Korean language education should improve its status as a creative, cultural, artistic, and convergent curriculum not just as a practical and foundational curriculum. In addition, this study suggests ‘enhancing status as an ideological curriculum’, ‘integration and concretization of learner-centered teaching and learning method’, and ‘enrichment of the research methodology of Korean language education’ as orientation and perspectives of Korean language education that creative cultural generation should put in practice.
