It was the King or the royal who drove compilation of history publications during Three Kingdom Period. Even in the case of Silla, where it was recorded that Yisabu petitioned the king to compile one, it appears that the history publication reflects the will of the royal. In that regards, we would need to acknowledge that publications such as Sinjip(New Compilation), compiled by Lee Moon-jin per the order of King Youngyang of Koguryo, or Seogi(Documentary Records), written during the reign of King Kun Chogo of Paekche, are the direct product of the will of the royal. The view is persuasive if we take into account the fact that the kings ordered publication of the history books out of discontent after reading existing written records on the royalty. Sinjip(New Compilation) is a vivid example in particular.
In the case of Silla, it is fair to focus on the role of Chisotaehoo, regardless of the fact that Yisabu’s petition initiatied the national history compilation. The fact that Keochilbu was promoted in his rank within Kwandung system in recognition of his feat in compiling Kuksa(National History) suggests that the publication upholds perspective of the royal. Therefore, it would be fair to say that king’s power heavily influenced compilation of history books in each of Three Kingdoms. In other words, influence of power of the state, king’s power in particular, over compilation of history books, was more significant during Three Kingdom Period than any other periods in Korean history.
