In this paper, I compared and analyzed the descriptions about Korean history in Elective Course History (2014/2019) , and History2 (2020) published by Nani Book Enterprise co. in order to explore the changes in perception about Korean history in the recent Taiwan history textbooks. In addition, I analyzed History2 (2020) of the Sanmin Book Company (Sanmin version) in order to verify the characteristics of History2 (2020) Nani version.
Compared to Elective Course History , History2 Nani version has not only the amount of pages describing about Korean history more than doubled, but also the textbook structure, the perspective of Korean history, the content, and the use of materials significantly have changed. Although the changes in History2 was based on the History Course in 2018, Nani version had a very large change compared to Sammin version. That is, Nani version actively accepted Korean studies such as ‘Dangun Joseon,’ ‘Byeongtan’, and ‘independence’, while avoiding descriptions of the ‘Vassal relationship’ and ‘Vassal state’ emphasized in Sammin version. The most distinctive feature of Nani version is in that it describes Korean history in consideration of the Korea’s stance on issues that are controversial internationally. History2 Nani version shows that the perception of Korean history in Taiwan has begun to change.
