This study has been conducted to draw implications from the field of adult education for the improvement of Christian adult ministry as being practiced in Korea. For this purpose a survey was made on the major concepts and views in the area of adult education theory. Then the Christian adult ministry among Korean churches was examined in terms of its ministry philosophy, ministry purposes, as well as ministry contents and methods. In doing this examination, an effort was made to discover major problem areas and then to apply the relative implications drawn from the survey of adult education theory. The major concepts and views of adult education theory were discussed in terms of: 1) the significance of lifelong education, 2) the meanings of adult education and Christian adult education, 3) purposes and contents of adult education activities, and 4) methodology of adult education. The key points of implications in the area of ministry philosophy are as follows: 1) The pastoral ministry and its main target group, adults, need to be viewed in an educational perspective; 2) The professional ministers need to take the role of equippers of lay people through more aggressive laity education and training; and 3) Lay people must be acknowledged as partners in Christian ministry. The key points of implications in the area of ministry purposes are as follows: 1) The central focus must be on the holistic maturity of adults; 2) A balance between individuality and corporateness needs to be maintained as churches seek growth; and 3) Lay involvement in ministry needs to be vitalized and extended out to the world The key points of implications in the area of ministry contents are as follows: 1) Contents need to be selected in consideration of the characteristics and needs of adult life; 2) Systematic education in the Bible and Christian theology is essential for a healthy spiritual formation of adults; and 3) Contents need to be in a close relationship with everyday life of adults. The key points of implications in the area of ministry methods are as follows: 1) Important traits of adults as learners need to be considered in selecting methods; 2) Effective methods are to be used to develop the ability of critical thinking and practice of faith; and 3) Methods to increase self -directedness of adults are to be used more extensively. In conclusion, a significant shift in the ministerial paradigm was suggested, which requires a change in philosophy and practice from the clergy-centered to the lay-centered ministry as well as an integration of changeless biblical imperatives with ever changing ministry methods.
