Many scholars argue that the Book of Job is one of the good examples which is open to multi-vocal readings of the Bible. Job in the Book of Job has rarely been understood until now despite many historical studies and sermons. Many preachers in the churches have regarded Job as the righteous man. It has been resulted from the partial reading the Book of Job, the introductory and concluding parts, by ignoring most parts of the book of Job. Scholars have failed in understanding concrete experiences of Job by putting too much emphasis on the methodologies of the days. I tried to understand the Book of Job in this article from the pastoral theological perspectives. In contrast to many previous studies, I took a serious consideration into Job`s experiences of multiple losses. Job in the Book experiences various losses all of a sudden; material losses, relational losses, functional losses, intrapsychic losses, and so on. Losses, I think, are the core experiences of Job in the understanding of the Book of Job. In doing so, I explored a contemporary methodological encounter of the uses of the Bible both in pastoral theological studies and biblical studies. Then, I discussed the strengths and weaknesses of Carl Jung`s psychological understanding of the Book of Job represented in Answer to Job. Finally, I discussed two images of God in the Book of Job after thorough reviews of multiple losses of Job. In the Book of Job, God allows talks of the mourning or the grief and God challenges re-involvement in the world.
