The 10th Assembly of WCC in Busan has provoked the serious theological controversy about religious pluralism between Evangelicals and Ecumenicals in Korea. The Korean Evangelicals get shocked at the WCC`s open attitude to other religions. So they criticized WCC of religious pluralism. Ecumenicals responded that they just tried the theological reflection of religious plurality in the religious pluralistic society. My question is whether there might be any possibility of the dialogue between Evangelicals and Ecumenicals in the theology of religions. My hypothesis is that if Evangelicals and Ecumenicals would try a kind of postmodern theology of religions, they could approach to each other despite some differences. According to this study, the Ecumenical theology of religions has developed as follows: first, ‘fulfilment’ model in Edinburgh and Jerusalem; second, exclusivism in Tambaram; third, the particularistic model to recognize the mystery of God in the matter of salvation of other religions in New Delhi and San Antonio; fourth, the denial of religious pluralism since Baar. Now we could say that WCC might recommend member churches for the third position above. And Alister McGrath, an Evangelical theologian, stood for particularism in the doctrine of salvation and exclusivism in the theology of religions. But he suggested a kind of optimistic agnosticism in relation to ‘the une vangelized.’ According to this survey, we could conclude that San Antonio document and Alister McGrath had a similarity in the theology of religions. They shared in their exclusivism (particularism) and their recognition of God`s mystery in the matter of salvation of other religions. On the basis of these evidences, this study would argue that if Evangelicals and Ecumenicals would share in their sense of the mystery of God in relation to the salvation of other religions, they might understand each other more and more. Evangelicals and Ecumenicals could approach to each other more despite their differences in the theology of religions. I hope that this essay contribute to lessening the tensions between Evangelicals and Ecumenicals in Korean Protestant churches after the 10th Assembly of the WCC in 2013.
