The purpose of this study is to test whether the amount and depth of self-disclosure are positively related to bridging and bonding social capital, and to investigate the association between social capital and subjective well-being. We found that self-disclosure amount and depth have an association with both bridging and bonding social capital. Increased self-disclosure amount and depth can increase social interaction, which in turn can contribute to the development of SNS social capital and hence positively affect individuals’ subjective well-being through the creation of new relations and the strengthening of existing relations. Our results confirmed that social capital built by sharing personal experiences, thoughts, and status through self-disclosure leads to subjective well-being, and hence increases satisfaction with social contact, interpersonal communication, and daily real life. Therefore, social capital can induce positive benefits by creating new relationships and strengthening existing relationships.
