Overcompensation has been a recurring phenomenon in the Korean drama industry. The primary drivers behind the compensation include the increasing drama production, the public offering of the producing companies, the rising popularity of Korean pop culture overseas, and the changes in the advertisement-related regulations. These have driven up the prices of A-list production factors more abruptly than others. Then, the relatively faster inflation of the A-list factor prices has then begun to erode into the profitability of drama producers. Producers need come up with ways to be able to cover the first copy cost either by pushing the revenue side or the cost side.
