Heavy metal concentrations in the creek water and sediment around Shihwa Lake were studied to assess the metal pollution status and its ecological risk as well as to identify the characteristic of metal input from adjacent area. Mean concentration of heavy metals in creek sediments showed the highest value for Co and Cd at C1 site, for Cu at C2 site, for As at C3 site and for Ni, Zn, Pb and Hg at C4 site, respectively. Metal concentrations in creek sediments were 2.3 to 135.1 times higher in industrial region than those in urban and rural regions. The concentrations of heavy metals in creek sediments had the higher value in summer season comparing with other seasons, suggesting that the accumulated metal in road and industrial facilities should enter into the creeks as a non-point sources.
