The Function of Dream Appeared in the Novel 『Guwangyan』
The purpose of this study is to see the function of dream through the dream described in the novel, Gu wang yan, and the summary of the contents is as following:
First, the dream play the role of developing story centered on narration. Such a dream not only imply the forward developing stories but also play the role as catalyst evolved the story. Second, the dream play the role of expression in the aspects of character"s inner psychology. Through these facts it effects the appeared characters in the real world recognize the situations of their retributions persuasively.
Third, the dream play the role of social edification through the comeuppance. Particularly, the work incorporates the writer"s sense of purpose which he enhance the moral and reform the confused secular custom by concentrated on the more retributions to the evil than those of the good.
Fourth, the dream play the role as a means of evaluating historical characters. The writer estimates the characters in the history according to his own criteria. And also the writer partly shows his attitude toward the existing historical character such as the King Yung Rak who the writer obviously condemned and reprimanded the King"s unjustness of the regime usurpation by actively expression.
