This study aims to examine and compare the characteristics of job creation and destruction in the Korean regional labor markets between 2004 and 2010 using the employer-employee panel data drawn from the employment insurance administrative DB. In this study, Korean labor market are divided into 150 regional labor markets based on Yun and his colleagues’ work(2011). This study also tries to examine the determinants of job change in regional labor market level using dynamic panel GMM model. The main findings of this study are as follows; First, Korean labor market consists of the considerably different regional labor markets in the aspects of the dynamics of job creation and destruction as well as net job growth rate. Second, Seoul is lower in both job creation and job destruction but slightly higher in net job growth rate, compared to the national average. Third, among non-capital areas, Honam area is characterized as a ‘flexible but insecure labor market’ in the sense of higher rates of job creation and destruction but relatively lower rate in the persistence of the created jobs, compared to Seoul and national average. Fourth, in the analysis using dynamic panel GMM, this study finds positive effects on net job creation rate(JNR) of the ratio of middle-aged and elderly worker aged 50 or above to all employees and the number of total employees, whereas for the ratios of women and of university graduates negative effect can be found.
