This paper aims to analyze and assess from sociological perspective, “Convergence Design College Development Project” from 2009 until 2014 and its results, funded by Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP) and to draw up further progressive plans for convergence design education in the future based on actual experience and observation of the programs of the Project. More objective analysis of the attitude of epistemological and cultural comprehension of how we need to explore and experiment the object and theme of “the necessity of convergence and method” is required in order to have multi-faceted discussions on the application of convergence design education to take place in the society. Equally important as “suggesting the objective of learning and becoming familiar with the theme” is “the process of realizing what the ground for idea of teaching is, what are the conditions of reality in which such idea would be realized.” Such process would be sufficiently understood and reflected in the ‘internal’ field so that active exchange and convergence with the ‘external’ can be made possible. This approach also allows how “Design Connects” will be realized where a society and its culture meets in a certain way. This is because practice and realization of design is a social production itself.
