This study examines the function and meaning of ``Kulehge`` as a discourse marker in conversations. ``Kulehge`` can be used as both a prodiscourse marker and a response marker. As a prodiscourse marker, ``Kulehge`` emphasizes that the speaker`s utterance is correct. In addition, it simply expresses complaints about interlocutor`s utterance by emphasizing that the following speaker`s utterance is correct. The utterance related to ``Kulehge`` involves the cause of current issues. Thus, the utterance that involves [+cause] follows ``Kulehge``. ``Kulehge`` is a prodiscourse marker for the preceding issues as well as preceding utterance. As a response marker, ``Kulehge`` functions as a backchannel of interlocutor`s response to the speaker in conversational structures. In other words, it is frequently employed as a positive backchannel to ask for either consent or sympathy in both interrogative and declarative sentences. When a speaker do not find out appropriate responses to questions, ``Kulehge`` also either represents speaker`s hesitative response rather than saying ``I have no idea..``, or prepares a speaker for a response through time gaining. ``Kulehge`` further plays a role in responding to an reprimanding interrogative sentence. ``Kulehge`` suggests that he or she is internally too embarrassed to say anything about the reprimand although the speaker appears to agree with a preceding utterance. This response may beimpolite according to the honorific for the preceding speaker.
