The paper focuses on the relation of lexis and grammar in Korean, in terms of josa (case marker), and eomi (pre-final and final-ending) when choosing the fundamental vocabularies. What we have found through the previous studies as to why josa and eomi often to be excluded from the fundamental vocabularies are four-fold. First, as josa and eomi have more grammatical function and less lexical meaning. Second, josa and eomi are so called content words rather than function words. Third, josa and emi have different grammatical processes according to learning stages. Fourth, only suffixes that have high productivity may be included in the fundamental vocabularies. We had carefully examined these four problems, and then founded several suggestions. In regard to the first one, we thoroughly observed the notions of lexeme, lemma, lexical items/grammatical items, lexis; and suggested the notion of ``grammar through lexis``, instead of the dichotomy notion like lexis and grammar. In regard to the second one, we looked over so called content words vs. function words, and open-class vs. closed class in relation to lexis. In regard to the third, we suggested a teaching method of josa, eomi according to the stage of meanings. In regard to the fourth, we pointed out lexis and lemma are different in derivational suffixes and josa/eomi, so, we would be better if we have different equivalents for lexis(어휘 항목) and vocabulary(어휘), respectively.
