The purpose of this study is to investigate the diversity change of entertainment program format on eight channels on the years around the launch of comprehensive channels. To do this, more than twenty seven hundred entertainment programs of eight channels were analyzed in three ways, “format type”, “cast”, “subject matter”. To investigate the diversity change, the diversity index of three categories of each channel were calculated on the front and the rear period of launch of comprehensive channels. The results of this study show that, after the launch of comprehensive channels, the diversity of format type decreased whereas that in cast and subject matter increased in terrestrial channels, while in tvN, cable channel, the diversity in format type and subject matter increased and decreased in cast. However, comprehensive channels indicate various form of diversity changes of entertainment program format depending on each channel; while all kinds of diversity index has dropped in great scale in ChannelA and TV Chosun, JTBC shows increase in diversity of cast and subject matter. In conclusion, the index of diversity of format type, cast and subject matter have been diverse depending on channels, which can be explained as the result of different strategies on planning of entertainment programs of each TV channel.
