There is no doubt about the universal acceptability of housing as one of the fundamental needs of man which, in order of priority comes after food and before clothing. In the realization of the importance of housing, successive governments of Nigeria have come up with policies aimed at meeting the housing needs of the people. Yet housing problems in Nigeria have continued to escalate unabated despite these number of policies churned out by the government to address the crises. This paper is therefore all out to examine the dimension and magnitude of these housing policies with a view to identifying the flaws and factors that have led to the failure of the policies and suggesting some measures that could serve as the way forward to resolving the flaws.
