The purpose of this research is to explore the current state of sports exchange between North and South Korea and the policy direction for vitalizing solutions. To do so, this paper examine previous researches done about the necessity of sports exchange between South and North; the progress of the sports exchange between South and North Koreas until the present day; both South and North Korea’s attitudes toward sports exchange; and possible solutions for vitalization, reflecting on sports sociological imagination.
The followings are to suggest the achievable resolutions to motivate sports interchange between South and North Korea.
First, two Koreas should sign ‘The Sports Exchange Agreement’ to continue such interchange, regardless of any political situations.
Second, in terms of implementing sports exchange, the North Korean policy should pursue and establish pan-national sports interchange with South Korea that is neutral to political influences.
Third, the small-scale sports exchange between South and North should be achieved through local governments supervising all kinds of sports activities for every citizen.
Fourth, there should be exchanges accomplished not only between national athlete teams, but also between juvenile sports teams and between college teams.
Fifth, soccer and basketball games for North and South Korea unification should be resumed as soon as possible, along with other different sports.
Sixth, just like organizing juvenile unitary inter-Korean teams for table tennis and soccer in 1991, similar actions of forming unitary inter-Korean teams should be consistently applied to other sports.
Seventh, there should be North-South industries that manufacture diverse sports products, including Taekwondo goods, established in Gaesong Industrial Complex.
Lastly, for badminton and other similar sports that North Korea is reluctant to carry out due to financial burden, South should dispatch sports instructors and support equipment.
