Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide a review of current knowledge concerning the national certifications in the area of sport and recreation to improve professionalization of national certification. Methods: In this paper, it was analyzed from a societal perspective and labor market. The scope of the national certification is within the sports instructor, the sports coaching, and fitness trainer accreditation. Since the act of national sports certification was regulated in 1971, it has been revised several times for fortifying the national coaching certification authorization. Results: The number of admissions for new students pursuing a bachelor"s degree in sports, exercise and health were 16,074 in 2014. The number of sport coaches and athletic instructors who got certification in 2014 were 11,470 and 2,800, respectively. The revised contents of national certification act do not require education requirements for earning certification, have several types of sports certification, and provide with practical training. The person who majored in sports and recreation in higher education or took the related subjects in higher education should be get permission to apply the national certification of sports. The government should make mandatory regulations to take courses at college or university before certificates it to achieve it. In addition, the acquisitors of qualification have to develop and maintain the quality of the eligible continuing professional education that offer sports-related courses in higher education. Conclusion: This study showed that the act of Accredited programs(the national sport promotion law) offering in-service training for specific period for seeking the national certification of sports instructor should be repealed.
