When we suppose reading process is a process of communication, text does not participate in the process of communication as a transparent being, but it assumes a certain attitude toward a receptive subject. To satisfy this condition of communication, rhetoric is a prerequisite for text. So, this study defines a receptive subject as a being summoned by the textual condition, and describes the action of the receptive subject showing dynamic responses as a process of communication. This makes it possible to research the way symbolic rhetoric exists as a textual condition and the principle calling out a reveptive subject. Symbolic rhetoric arouses familiarity and probability and emphasizes the trustworthy possibility of a receptive subject. The world it arouses is the suppressed product of civilization, and therefore, it will be denied from the reasonable point of view though it exists in a sense of living life. This denied world by a receptive subject has an identical structure with preconsciousness which exists subconsciously. This study is significant in two ways. First, it does not explain the origin of sympathy by the psychological factor of a receptive subject, but gives shape to the subconscious structure inherent in our mind. Second, it can construct a reading process dynamically by the preunderstanding of a receptive subject which is a textual condition for communication.
