In Korea, the community housing has been increasingly built as an alternative housing to cope with social problems like solitude of increasing elderly or one-person households and burden of housework and infant care of working moms. What characterizes architectural aspects of community housing is that it is a complete housing unit where ones can enjoy independent life, and is also equipped with common space of common ownership.
The community houses supplied by private sector are age-integrated type, which means that it does not constrain the age band like elder or young generation. These community houses have types; co-operative type by coordination company, free-planning type(differentiated plan for every house), and multiunit house type.
What makes Korean community housing differ from foreign collective housing is that the primary goal is "my house" of middle-class households, and that they do not gather to have meal in common space. The common space of Korean community housing is small due to economic reason, but its usage is diverse for common activities, small group meetings, and kid"s playing space, making residents" satisfaction high.
What is recommended to activate community housing is that finance system has to supply diversified financing channel, and policy has to make construction cost lower through land-lease way. Additional measures are recommended; construction cost support in case that common space be open to neighborhoods, policy support of incentive construction space, less restricted parking lot, and fostering coordination companies.
