This study conducted an empirical analysis on the effect of urban environmental factors on residents’ health using spatial econometrics model by establishing BMI(body mass index) and recognition rate of subjective health level as dependent variables and specific variables of physical characteristics, physical urban environment, and social urban environment as independent variables. Spatial extent was limited to 25 districts in Seoul-si and set 2014 for temporal range.
It was identified that there is spatial autocorrelation between the rate of obesity and subjective healthy population rate as Moran’s I value of the obesity rate turned out to be 0.252 and Moran’s I value of subjective healthy population to be 0.153. According to the estimation result of spatial error model of the obesity population ratio model, it was identified that subjective health population rate, present condition of apartment housing, fluctuation rate of land price, extension of bike trails, and local tax make significantly negative effect on the percentage of overweight people. On the other hand, it was identified that smoking rate, drinking rate, road extension, distribution industry, and recipients of basic living make significantly positive effect on the percentage of overweight people. Therefore, it would be necessary for the government and local authorities to improve quality of life of residents by establishing urban planning for residents’ health.
