This study is aimed to investigate the heterogeneity of the preferences for the local political institutions between Daegu and Gwangju. It is necessary to investigate the heterogeneity of the preferences for the local political institutions between regions to decide the proper governance level in relation with the decision of local political institutions. The analysis results suggest significant differences between Daegu and Gwangju in relation with the evaluation of local politics. Gwangju local politics is evaluated as better than Daegu local politics in most aspects. This study showed the heterogeneity of the regional preferences for the local political institutions. The Daegu residents were analyzed to support more positively the three local political institutions: female quota in local elections, recommendation of the candidates for the low level local elections, and the local party. Considering the heterogeneous preferences of the local residents, it is necessary to form the local political institutions well suited to the specific region to reduce the political costs.
