Lyrical Ballads is the first collection of poems of green thoughts in a modern sense. This study focuses on the issues of ecological reading, analysing Wordsworth’s nature poems such as “Nutting,” “Tintern Abbey,” and “The Female Vagrant” as to reassess the significance of those poems in connection with some concepts of deep ecological thoughts. Specifically, this study suggests a green reading or writing as a feasible methodology due to some critical uses of the students’ reading journals about “Nutting.” And then in reading of “The Female Vagrant,” “Goody Blake, and Harry Gill,” “Simon Lee, The Old Huntsman,” and “Tintern Abbey,” this essay shows that Wordsworth’s wild nature in those poems is an imaginative reconstruction of destructed wilderness or country landscape related to the 19th century enclosure movement, and concludes that it is one of the precious legacies Wordsworth left for the next generations of poets who write green, and for us to imaginatively live in such a harmonious nature and to think about our planet more holistically.
