The purpose of this study was to compare the maternal parenting stress, parenting behavior, stress coping strategies and social competence of pre-school children in rural immigrant families and non-immigrant families. Participants included 100 immigrant and 101 non-immigrant families. Parenting areas and stress coping strategies were assessed by mothers’ reports, and children’s social development was estimated by teachers with the subscales of social competence. The study used Pearson``s correlation and multiple regression analysis. Results showed maternal parenting stress, parenting behavior, and stress coping strategies significantly predicted social competence of children in rural immigrant families, while parenting behavior and stress coping strategies represented significant factors to social competence in non-immigrant families.
