The purpose of this study is to examine relations between general characteristics, perception of the culture gap, and cultural adaptation among mothers of young children in multicultural family. This study was conducted on 181 parents of 3, 4, and 5-year-old children who were enrolled in early childhood education institutions in Seoul and Gyonggi. Results showed that perception of the culture gap of parents in multicultural family varied with age, nationality, Korean language ability, length of stay, monthly average income, and cohabitation status of married couples. And integration level of cultural adaptation in Korea society varied with educational background and Korean language ability. It was also found that parenting efficacy of parents in multicultural family varied with age, nationality, and monthly average income. In correlations between parents' perception of the culture gap, cultural adaptation, and parenting efficacy, the results showed that parent's perception of the culture gap had no significant relationship with parenting efficacy. However, parents' integration level with Korean culture had positive correlations with parents' belief, perception and performance of parental roles, and the entire parenting efficacy while separation from Korea society had negative correlations with performance of parental roles and the entire parenting efficacy. Mother's age and integration into Korean culture had a positive influence on parenting efficacy while separation from Korean culture, which interferes with cultural adaptation to hold the cultural identity of their native country, had a negative influence on parenting efficacy. These results suggest that if ecological power or mediation which helps integration into Korea society and cultural adaptation of parents in multicultural family work focused on easily accessible early childhood education institutions, it can not only promote healthy growth and development of young children with support for parenting behaviors of parents in multicultural family but also reach successfully to the prevention of social maladjustment in the future.
