This study was completed to investigate the effects of propolis administration on adult women`s acute inflammatory responses and immune functions before they were put under bicycle ergometer testing(maximal exercising). For 4 weeks, Twenty four healthy female subjects were divided into five groups: one time propolis administration group(A), two weeks propolis administration group(B), one time placebo administration group(C), two weeks placebo administration group(D) and, control group(E). The result of this study follows as below :WBC(A, C, D, E: p<.001, B: p<.05), hs-CRP(A, B: p<.05, C, D, E: p<.001), Fibrinogen(A, D: p<.01, B, C: p<.001) and Albumin(A, D, E: p<.005, B: p<.001, C: p<.05) were significantly increased immediately after the maximum exercising as compared to before exercising. In the result of two-way ANOVA with a repeated measure, hs-CRP was the significant difference between B and D by group(F=2.887, p=0.036), and Albumin was the significant difference between B and A, C, D, E(F=6.969, p=0.000). Neutrophil(A, B, C: p<.05), Lymphocyte(A, C: p<.05, B: p<.01), Eosinophil(A, C, E: p<.01) and Basophil(C: p<.05) were significantly increased immediately after the maximum exercising as compared to before exercising. In conclusion, administration of propolis before high-intensity exercising suppresses the increase of the acute inflammatory responses. Consequently, in case of the general adult women under high-intensity exercising, it can help reduce the side effects same as increase of acute inflammatory responses.
