The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of 12 weeks of rope-jumping training on body composition, cardiovascular disease risk factor and insulin resistance in obese middle-aged women. Twenty one obese middle age women were assigned to one of two groups that exercise group(n = 11) and control group (n = 10). Exercise group performed the combined rope-jumping training for 60 minutes/time, 5 times/week and 45~65%HRmax intensity for 12 weeks, whereas control group were asked to maintain normal lifestyle during the same period. Variables of body composition, cardiovascular disease risk factor(CRF) and insulin resistance were measured and compared between exercise group and control group as well as pre- and post-training using 2-way ANOVA with repeated measure. Main results were as follows: 1) Body weight, %fat, Body fat and BMI decreased significantly in exercise group. 2) TC, TG, LDL-C and arteriosclerosis index(AI) decreased significantly but HDL-C increased significantly in exercise group. 3) Blood glucose concentration, blood insulin concentration and HOMA-IR tended to decrease in post-training whereas HOMA-IS tended to increase in post-training. In conclusion, 12 weeks of combined rope-jumping training would have positive effects on body composition, cardiovascular disease risk factor and insulin resistance in obese middle-aged women.
