There have been several attempts to reinstate Rev. Ki-Chul Ju in the recent annual presbytery meetings in Korea. However, in order to restore his previously tarnished reputation the process of reinstatement must build upon historical accuracies. The general consensus is that he was dismissed from his pastoral office as a result of the disciplinary demand of the 37<SUP>th</SUP> Pyengyang Presbytery meeting of December 19, 1939. However, this seems improbable according to the documented minutes. The minutes state that the disciplinary demands of the first session of the 37th Pyengyang presbytery meeting has merely “urged for resignation from [his] pastoral office at the [Pyengyang] East Gate church”. Unfortunately, this phrase was misunderstood as having been completely “dismissed from his ordination as a minister.” The writer carefully re-examined important documents including series of Rev. Charles Bernheisel’s letters, The Presbytery Bulletin, Fighters against the Sun-god in Japan, and A Martyrology of Rev. Ki-Chul Ju and His Sermons etc. He also reviewed other important materials such as Korea Daily News Papers and several other major books relating to this subject since the 1950’s. As a result of the study, he concluded that the disciplinary action against Rev. Ju at the 37<SUP>th</SUP> presbytery meeting did not construe to the “dismissal of his ordained pastoral office” but that it read as an admonishment that “urged for resignation from [his] pastoral office at the East Gate church.”
