The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of character education on the mental health and school life satisfaction of college students. The subjects in this study were 705 selected students who took a general education course during a semester of 2016 at the college of liberal arts in a university located in Goisan-gun, North Chungcheong Province. A self- administered survey was conducted with their consent, and their answer sheets were gathered. The collected data were analyzed by a statistical package SPSS 18.0. A factor analysis, ANOVA and t-test were carried out, and Cronbach alpha coefficients and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients were calculated. The findings of the study were as follows:
First, as for differences in mental health according to sociodemographic characteristics, there were statistically significant differences according to gender in the factor of depression. The girl students had more problems than the male ones in terms of depression.
There were statistically significant differences according to academic year in the anxiety factor. The seniors faced the most problems in that regard.
And statistically significant differences were found according to their colleges in the anxiety factor. The students from the college of humanities and society had the most problems in terms of anxiety.
Second, whether the students underwent any changes in school life satisfaction was analyzed. As a result, statistically significant differences were found, and there were statistically significant differences in every subfactor. They experienced the most changes in satisfaction with overall college life, followed by college services and the quality of education.
Third, as a result of analyzing the correlation between the factors of school life satisfaction and those of mental health, there was nothing wrong with multicollinearity.
