This study is designed to examine the social issues and the analysis of trends related to the regeneration of residential area. We found 142 newspaper and 50 academic research papers using the keyword “regeneration of residential area” in the search engine. Based on these data corpora, we used the text mining technique to obtain some results. Using the frequency analysis of keywords, and network analysis, we have reviewed the social issues. in addition, we verified and compared two data corpora to understand what the differences in the viewpoints are between the newspaper articles and academic research papers. The findings are as the following. First, in case of time sequential analysis, the newspaper articles showed changes from the perspective of the regeneration of residential area in term of the main place of interest and the approach method. On the other hand, the academic research papers emphasized the necessity of the regeneration of residential area by the residents but it was found that the spatial scope of discussion gradually reduced. Second, in case of comparative analysis of two data corpora, the newspaper articles mainly dealt with issues of reconstruction and redevelopment in the urban apartment area, which is one of the general public interests, while the academic research papers suggested a necessity of the regeneration of residential area and specific alternative such as the regeneration of residential area focusing on village unit.
