The concept of color for modern people is not formed abruptly, and it is often passed down from the past. The color sense of one nation should be considered as intangible cultural product, which has been formed the nation living for thousand years. Hereupon, it is important for understanding and consideration concerning traditional color. In this research, we examined the color concept of Japanese nine main colors to study the uniqueness of traditional color in Japan, where the closest country with Korean peninsula, and the result is as follows: 1. For the basis of traditional concept of color in Japan, there were the effect of Yin-Yang School and Buddhism. 2. For the traditional concept of white in Japan, it appeared for purity, innocence, divinity, clean heart, surrender, confession, death, futility, beginning, and end, etc. 3. For the traditional concept of red in Japan, it appeared for sun, fire, sincerity, grief, tears, loving mind, lie, active, optimistic, and celebration, etc. 4. For the traditional concept of yellow in Japan, it appeared for earth, sun, gold, afterlife, callowness, benevolence, aloofness, and freshness, etc. 5. For the traditional concept of green in Japan, it appeared for moderation, passive, sampling, subordinate, immaturity, contrary, hope, fixity, health, spring, and peace, etc. 6. For the traditional concept of blue in Japan, it appeared for changing heart, victory, mystery, cleanliness, flowering, water, sky, mountain, eastern, spring, weakness, hope, and idleness, etc. 7. For the traditional concept of purple in Japan, it appeared for nobleness, top superiority, longing, connection, color
of colors, etc. 8. For the traditional concept of tea color in Japan, it appeared for passive, Japanese aesthetics, severity, steadiness, and stability, etc. 9. For the traditional concept of gold in Japan, it appeared for Land of Happiness, mercy, wealth, authority, power, luxury, and brilliance, etc. 10. For the traditional concept of black in Japan, it appeared for fire, evil, malice, darkness, death, sorrow, despair, disharmony, immobility, desire, robustness, and dignity, etc.
