It’s no exaggeration to say that there is the element of Taekwondo demonstration behind the background whereby Taekwondo could have achieved world-wide bases and developed in such a short period.
Thus, this study, in an attempt to conduct research on the influences of Taekwondo demonstration in diverse angles throughout modern times, classified the significance of Taekwondo demonstration using data of Chosun Ilbo, Dong-A Ilbo, Kyunghyang Shinmun and Hankyoreh Shinmun, and sought to analyze social and cultural meanings of Korea’s Taekwondo demonstration.
The followings are the conclusions of this study.
First, social influences of Taekwondo demonstration, by dint of the national policy and governmental support, was great as a means of national publicity to improve international relation and strengthen friendship as well as in the area of non-governmental diplomacy.
Second, Taekwondo demonstration has been playing its role as a ‘New Korean Wave’ taking advantage of the government’s Taekwondo promotion policy as a cultural product representing Korea and change of contents of Taekwondo demonstration.
The study believes evolution of Taekwondo as such plays a central role for Taekwondo to be recognized as one of Korea’s representing cultural brands along with Hangeul and Arirang across the globe.
