The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence and associated factors of metabolic syndrome of children and adolescents in Korea. The data of 7,709 children and adolescents were selected from the database of the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2008 to 2014 and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, χ 2-test, ANOVA and logistic regression with the SPSS WIN 19.0 program. The risk factors of metabolic syndrome as age, weight, blood pressure, fasting glucose, and triglyceride were significantly different from 2008 to 2014. The odds ratio of children and adolescent with obesity was over 11 times significantly higher than that of children and adolescent with normal BMI. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome of girls was higher than that of boys from 2008 to 2013. But in 2014, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome of boys and girls was reversed. It is necessary to monitor the prevalence and risk factors for th management of metabolic syndrome in children and adolescents.
