This thesis explores the implicit term, a performer"s ‘doing nothing’ in articulating and reconsidering the principles of acting by means of a performer"s spontaneity, flexibility and immediacy. Particularly this thesis interrogates a paradoxical principle of acting that implies a state of ‘doing nothing’ as non-acting leads a performer to being in a state of ‘doing a necessary action(s)’ as an essential principle in order to being on the virtual space and time. As research method, this thesis rejects the previous paradigms and/or assumptions of acting and performer training which normally maintains in facilitating a performer"s visual and/or outer expression focused on his/her upper half body including hands and facial expressions and so on. Rather this thesis above all attempts to articulate those theatre artists’ key concept, ‘doing nothing’ by means of a state of a performer"s ‘neutrality’ and/or ‘non-acting.’ Secondly this thesis addresses the necessity of an actor’s awakening energy in a sense of bodymind oneness or unity. This thesis then explores how can a performer cultivate his/her body in order to being on stage as the flow of his/her spontaneity. In conclusion, this thesis reconsiders the argues discussed through this thesis and gives a possible way within which a performer can apply and develop these processes through his/her training and the purpose of acting.
