This article tries to evaluate three theoretical approaches such as complex head parameter and EPP pied-piping and labeling algorithm in the generative and minimalist grammar with the selected constructions exhibiting the word orders of Old English clauses(OEC) where AUX, V and nominal DPs are only counted. Given six word orders such as AUX-V-O, AUX-O-V, V-AUX-O, O-AUX-V, O-V-AUX and *V-O-AUX(not derived) in the OEC, the complex head-parameter approach cannot derive V-AUX-O and O-AUX-V-order and also can not explain why V-O-AUX order is not derived. Meanwhile the EPP Pied-Piping approach can not derive O-AUX-V and O-V-AUX order. In this approach the notions like the EPP feature, traces and optional pied-piping are used, which should be avoidable if necessary in terms of the minimalism. However the labeling algorithm approach can straightforwardly account for all word orders given in the OEC except O-V-AUX order and also account for no derivation of V-O-AUX due to the freezing effect of ϕ-ϕ-feature sharing in {AUX, DP} in the course of the derivation of V-O-AUX order. Thus in this article the label algorithm approach is considered to be the best one for accounting for the word orders of the OEC.
