This study focuses on the World Heritage related to the modern times and analyzes the diverse tendencies of the World Heritages(228 sites). 228 sites extracted from investigation of entire 1,052 world heritages being inscribed until now. The findings of this study are as follows: 1) the universalities are emphasized; 2) the inscription of the heritages related to the symbolic instances or the special characteristics; 3) the increase of the negative heritages such as the wars, the massacres, etc; 4) the enlargement of the living heritage concept; 5) the inscription of the heritages related to the persons, the modern cities and the buildings; 6) the routinization of the inscription of the trans-national heritages. Such results of the analysis imply that not only the number of world heritages but the types of the contents related to the modern times will increase in the future. Especially, the inscription of the heritages related to the international incidents that took place during the modern era will increase. In addition, it is predicted that the inscription of the heritages possessing the form of the series or the trans-national heritages will greatly increase, too. Lastly, in this research, the potentials of the modern cultural heritages of Korea to become the World Heritage are explored. The possibilities of the inscription of the heritages related to the Korean War, the Hansen"s disease site(Sorokdo), and the DMZ which possesses the potential to become a mixed heritage are confirmed.
