This paper came up with a standardized vehicle repair painting manual for vehicle door panels that are exchanged due to major damage from the bolts(hoods, fenders, doors, trunk lids, etc.) used in vehicle refinishing. The task types can involve replacing panels with a large number of minor contacts and heavy traffic accident modes with new panels or affixing a new panel to the existing one. In general, if a vehicle got involved in a traffic accident or is repaired for various reasons, a repair stamp must be attached thereto based on the new vehicle"s paintwork. Unlike the new-vehicle painting process, the vehicle repair painting process is highly dependent on the operator’s painting skills(i.e., performance, purpose, level, attitude, etc.) due to the nature of the painting task. In particular, vehicle repair painting should be carried out using coating structures such as that shown in Fig. 1 when repairing or changing a door panel. Due to the absence of a standardized vehicle repair painting manual, however, the number of work methods being employed in the 6,000 maintenance plants across the country(comprehensive, 1, 2, and 3) varies widely. To ensure that customers’ vehicles receive uniform repair painting, a standardized vehicle repair painting manual should be used. As such, this study produced a standardized vehicle repair painting manual for the change or repair of the rear door panels in vehicle repair plants. It is hoped that such standardized vehicle repair painting manual will guide the vehicle repair painting process henceforth.
