This study is a basic study for constructing the color usage method of the low small housing in Korea. As a result of analyzing the characteristics of color usage method for 14 advanced cases constructed after the year 2000, it can be concretely summarized as follows. First, the system was composed of the internal space and the color related system deviated from the epidermal property. Second, most of the exterior walls were single color, emphasizing colors were applied to design elements that form residential elements such as windows, window frames, doors, signs of architectural elements. Third, the color of the material was used without processing while the surface or texture of the finishing material was being used intact. Fourth, various intimate and familiar colors were used in the perceived range at a close distance. Descriptive graphics were also planned to be visible in the close distance rather than in the landscape. It was a way of using colors that can be easily recognized by people those who use it, in addition emphasis was introduced on the side, rather than the front, negative public space or close distance. Therefore, the color usage method of the advanced low floor type small settlement housing can be summarized as highlight color that ‘color does not divide shape’, ‘single and simple color for convenient reapplication’, ‘material color as a property of material’, and ‘emphasis color applied to architectural elements’.
